At the same time a young Princess Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip visited the city to open the nearby Yorkshire Show. In the next few years their lives and the lives of the whole nation were to change forever.

This is the story of that ordinary boy growing up in 1950s Wakefield. It is a story about ordinary people, places, attitudes and life in this busy industrial city. Like the rest of post-war Britain in the 1950s, Wakefield was gradually recovering from a long period of austerity and entering a new exciting period - the Elizabethan age .......
